ASML - System Engineer

Introduction

Are you eager to learn new skills? To build a completely complex and detailed knowledge of the entire exposure sequence of a lithography system for semiconductors? If so, then a job as System Engineer at ASML could be your perfect path to new knowledge in multiple engineering disciplines.

Job Mission

You will act as the technology ‘owner’ of the system - an extremely vital role. That’s because ASML has made commitments to customers concerning these new products – promises that we made and you have to keep. You will need to enhance your complex knowledge of all the subsystems within our machines. It needs to be not only complex but also detailed, because you will need to consider how even the tiniest of process improvements in one area affects the performance in all the other areas. You will then need to design-in additional compensatory measures. And here too, you must be certain that these changes do not adversely affect processes elsewhere in the system.

In addition to these analytical skills, you will need excellent communication skills – to convince, motivate and inspire the architects and engineers who are charged with implementing your process improvements. Remember, these systems already perform to unimaginably extreme tolerances, and improving on these already supreme feats of engineering requires commitment, enthusiasm and leadership. As the ‘owner’ you will need it all. You will also need to be a good listener and negotiator – ASML is filled with bright minds, and you must always be on the lookout for great ideas.

Job Description

As a System Engineer you are responsible for the definition and verification of new products within the area of expertise. You will manage the requirements and the concept of the product in the Product Generation Process (definition, realization and verification).

  • Responsible for the definition of the System Performance Specification (SPS) and the System Design Specification (SDS).
  • Creation of budgets and breakdown of these budgets to subsystem level, based on your own knowledge of the complete lithography system.
  • Creation of a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) listing all required actions in close cooperation with Development & Engineering (feasibility and lead time).
  • Responsible for the system performance verification and qualification.
  • Technical review of the project deliverables (subsystem performance qualification).
  • Concerning system performance issues support is given to both internal (Customer Support, Production Engineering, Marketing) and external customers.
  • Contributes to the creation of the roadmap of the business drivers (imaging, overlay, focus, productivity) of the lithographic tool.

Education

MSc or PhD level in physics, mechanics, mechatronics, mathematics or optical engineering.

Experience

At least three years experience in a System Engineering environment or similar. Broad technical scope and track record in technical leadership.

Personal Skills

  • Eagerness to learn and expand your skill set
  • Good communication and negotiation skills
  • Result-oriented and high stress-tolerance

System Engineering translates the requirements for new products set by Product Marketing into a system design. During the design and integration process System Engineering guides Development and Engineering, guards the specifications and verifies the performance at system level at the end of the development process. The definition and validation work is carried out in close cooperation with architects within Development and Engineering.
